"The Essence of Neigh" is only a small piece of my experience with The Gift Shop, founded by Imani Dominique. I painted this artwork as a backdrop for my space at The Gift Shop's first pop up at Square One mall in Mississauga, which showcased myself and three other Black artists from the GTA. Ahead of painting, us artists were taught valuable skills for art entrepreneurs and partook in interviews for The Gift Shop Documentary. We were all given green and brown paint for our backdrops, and about 2 hours to create. My general artwork centres Black features, hair, beauty, fashion, and myself, so I freestyle elements that represented those things. My creativity shines best in spontaneous moments of creations such as this, as sketching is my first love.
